THE GREAT ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE

The Great Architect of the Universe is a poem about a spiritual entity who is believed, throughout the millenniums, to have been the enemy of God and the freer of men. In other words, this piece of literary art you are about to read is a spiritual poem about « Lu-CI=fer ». Oddly enough, I appreciate the definition of this fantastic persona, — his identity being brought about and clarified first by « who he is not », « what he does » and the « things he says ». This poem, as much as any other poem available on Vitrine de Poésie, is a must-read.

The Great Architect of the universe is not He

Who laid down the pillars of the grey luminary…

He neither showed where the deep should end its pride

Nor did he utter that someday the sun might die…

The Great Architect of the universe is not He

Who made in Earth’s Eden the fruits of good and sin…

He did not curse the ground under Adam’s feet

To be as sharp as the blade that slays sheep’s skin…

The Great Architect induced Man to love the dark

And to turn the rebellious gneiss into skyscrapers

And to have slaves build pyramids on desolate tracts…

The Great Architect is without doubt a good rapper

He whispered: Earth is your heaven, earth is your hell

And added: Nothing is sweeter than enjoying life’s bell…
